After more than a month of going Korean style, we are now off to get our memory foam bed elevated as it will soon have its very own bed box. Manila is a very dusty city that even if sweeping was done in the morning, a couple of hours after dust will behold you over again. It never ends. We live in a village that only private vehicles are allowed. Imagine if our house was close to a national road or the highway! I am just glad that I wouldn’t have to sweep through the edges of the bed itself. Other cold countries like Korea can very well afford to get furnitures slumped on the floor (and even sit on the floor while eating) because they don’t have so much dust like we do here. This is also one of the reasons why we had to take out carpets. It’s like nurturing a dust haven for the mites and what have yous for their abode.

Here is kuya with his masterpiece in the making. Our folks got their closet replaced a couple of days back, it was just timely that he was around because we have put off getting a bed frame for our mattress for sometime now. We asked if he could make a bed box for us and it turned out he’s an expert with woods, bed frames and even home theater furniture. This is far better than having to buy those laminated bed frames we see from the department stores. A solid wood will sure last us many years than those laminated frames. The headboard with cushion that the hubby wants will have to wait until later. :-)

Earlier today I wrote about criminal lawyers, allow me to introduce you now to personal injury attorneys. Even as we hope not to have the need for one, fact is, it’s an imperfect world. Although getting a hold of lawyers do not always equate to crime and the like. Like for instance, we recently had to avail of the services of our lawyer-cousin to take care of some property titles arrangements. It was a blessing that we have a relative who is an attorney because these professionals do charge quite a bit. It was his good will that he did not charge us with fees, but we could have obliged because this is his profession.

If Hearing Loss Claim is what you are concerned about, maybe you would be interested to check out a Hearing Loss Attorney from LegalAidMan.com. This firm has helped victims of all kinds of bodily injuries. All cases that they have are on a basis of contingency which means you are not charged for a fee until you win a verdict. Now, that’s convenient. Read the rest of this entry »

My Sunday was tiring but a blessed wonderful day for me. All the issues that came my way could really sap my energies off me. In the morning I got to talk to one of our elder members who recently found out she has cancer. Afterwhich, issues with some of my girls that got me stunned. I love them dearly. I rejoice as well even as we all together claim John 8:36, “So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.”

The Lord alone helps us through the ministry He has put us in and I also hope to make myself more available that’s why I have been religiously taking in my medications and multivitamins, but for some reason I forgot to take them before we left the house yesterday morning. Recently I have been into Supplement Reviews, looking for the best one to complement my cause towards a healthful lifestyle. I am currently trying out two good ones, plus regularly juicing both fruits and veggies. We are also taking out most of the preserved stuff off our weekly roster of meal schedule.

Today, for our youth service, our senior pastor helped us transport high school students from Gen. Pio del Pilar National High School to our church/ youth center. We would have bought a bus for sale that we can use for transporting students if we had the funds. Too bad it was raining so we didn’t really need a bus to transport the eight visitors we had from the school we reached out to. But it was all worth it because there were three who made commitments for Christ in our youth service today.

I just love the articles that a fellow homeschooling member from Y! groups shares with us periodically. Thanks again, Karen! These snippets of wise stuff could really come in handy, especially when we parents just find ourselves in some kind of a power struggle with our little ones. For us, it’s not often but it does happen. Even our bright and shiny little guy could test our patience sometimes and it is important to know how we should respond to his attempts of defiance.

Do you find yourself yelling sometimes just to be heard? Does the yelling frustrate you but you feel there’s no other way? We find that parents often yell when they don’t have a plan. Some parents don’t know how to fix a problem with their kids so they become louder, thinking that the intensity created through yelling will have some kind of positive effect. It doesn’t work.

Motivating with harshness can keep children in line or get them to accomplish a task, but that method damages family relationships. In Jeremiah 10:24, Jeremiah prays, “Correct me, Lord, but only with justice, not in your anger, lest you reduce me to nothing. In the end, it is closeness that provides parents with teachable moments and the relaxed enjoyment of family life. Yelling and harshness discourage trust, essential to help young people learn valuable principles about life.

3_month_old.jpgThe hubby and I were three years in our marriage when our little guy arrived. He was everything we ever prayed for. Right from the time he was two months old, he was already sleeping through the night! He is such an easy baby. The hubby and I prepared ourselves with childbirth preparations and studied the varied views of parenting and we applied Baby wise right from day one. It worked for us, despite the fact that there are people who are against its principles, I can only say how it worked for us and we will always be glad that we stuck it out. Only those who have not actually read the book from cover to cover will label it as rigid. This much I can say, its principles are backed by what the Bible teaches.

People around celebrated with us and made sure they made themselves available for just about anything we needed. We were blessed to have been lent all those baby furniture that we did not have to buy. From baby travel cots, baby prams, bassinet, bouncer, crib, baby pushchairs to playpen. All of these are pricey. I mean if we could very well afford it, we could have bought, why not. But then again, people around us offered to lend us their baby stuff and we were more than grateful. Besides a lot of them told us that babies outgrow everything all too soon, so we figured it was really more practical to just borrow. And that too, like Baby wise, worked for us just fine. ;-)

Today the hubby is scheduled to do an ocular inspection of the prospective place for transfer of the local church that he pastors. The place is not much. In fact the most it could sit is around fifty people. But it has three upstairs rooms which could be used for Sunday School that could even serve as rooms for the future pre-school facility that we have planned to put up to cater to the kids of our church members. It is really hard to be able to get a good location with the best price in the area. But we remain hopeful.

moving-boxes.jpg

We are praying that the Lord will give us wisdom and confirmation if this is the place for us. Aside from it being a real downgrade in space, the location is the most ideal that we have seen by far, very accessible to say the least. It is practically a stone throw away from the school that we are tying up with for a regular outreach and follow up program. If it would be it, then I am sure our church family will be more than glad to pack our bags and fill those moving boxes. We continue to pray even as we anticipate the best place God has in store for our local church to transfer to. :-)

Lately, my son and I have been watching lots of animated movies such as Finding Nemo, The Incredibles and Cars which is his favorite. My wife recently downloaded some extra videos of Jed’s favorite movie and it is about Mater, Lightning McQueen’s companion, and the ghost light. The beginning of that short movie contains a background music of some country music which sounds really nice and kind of relaxing and laid back.

A good source of music in this genre is HDRadio.com. Country music lovers can listen to new country music stations all around US or particular Florida High Definition Radio stations. HD Radio is not like satellite radio. It is a ground antenna based radio or simply a digital version of FM and AM. If you listen with a Polk Audio I-sonic ES2 you can even “tag” the songs that you like in your iPod and then download and buy the songs from the iTunes music store at a later time when you sync your iPod to your laptop or PC.

Having a handyman for a husband can really be a total blessing. It is indeed a bonus. It was something I learned when I was already in the marriage. Being a handyman is not exactly a requirement quality of a husband. I mean he is not expected to be operating rollformers or something. But it came to me as a real treat when I actually did not have to bother to go get that next available plumber for a leaking lavatory or even to have a complicated bath tub faucet replaced. fathers-day-08.jpg

It has been a couple of weeks since the world celebrated Father’s Day and this entry is a delayed one all right, but still worthy to be posted. I ran across this shot as I was going through my files this morning. The tons of photos that we have are eating up and slowly consuming the 80gb disk space of my trusty laptop. I am actually considering the hubby’s proposal to get ourselves another external hard drive. I used to have photos and files burnt to dvd, but it was too late when I found out this kind of backing up does not work. We lost our photo files from the year 2004 to 2007. It’s sad and I will do anything to get the files restored. Our disc clinic won’t even do the trick. :-(

This shot was taken in one of my father’s all time favorite restaurants.   Ever since I can remember, it will always be his restaurant of choice,  that if that place would hold a Ristorante Contest, he would easily win effortlessly. He never gets tired of going back to this place right from when we were little. Our family has grown bigger. It used to be just the four of us: Mama, Papa, my sister and me. Now there are seven of us and boys have finally outnumbered the girls. :-)

april-17-07-turnover-day-finally.jpgOne of the more exciting things that the hubby and I enjoyed during our house construction last year was designing our bathroom. It was a major blessing that our contractor gave us the freedom to have what we want. We went from one home depot to another, surveying designs of Bathrooms. We even browsed the internet for hours on end, we would not want to settle for second best. For one, this will be our very own abode and we’d like our personal touch to it. From the Roman theme, Mediterranean classic, Contemporary, et al., we later agreed to settle for a black and white theme.

In dealing with young people, it is very important to understand their culture. Many young people like rap music. In fact, many of them who are also into social networking, embed rap videos in their profile page. They might even have gotten the video from RapArtists.com which is a source of information about rap artists and their music, albums, discography and many others. We just encourage the youth that we deal with to be cautious in choosing the songs they listen to, based on its content and lyrics.

It is a joy for both me and the hubby to see our little guy memorize some verses from the Bible. He first quoted his first verse, Ephesians 6:1 when he turned two last year. This past week, he has got another verse memorized and with action Psalm 27:4). Click this link to watch the video.

Right from he was five months old, we introduced Bible reading to him and it has been like a routine since that he has come to know the stories behind each character from his picture Bible. It delights us when we see him browsing through the book even by himself. This week I realized yet again that persistence does pay off. There are just times that I do not feel like pressing on, which is just natural, especially when I am busy with work. We pray that by God’s grace, we will be able to be consistent. :-)
