When my younger sister informed me today of the Conficker C attacking on April Fool’s Day, which is tomorrow, it was rather easy to shrug it off just like we should have, the Y2K virus. When she said that an officemate from the IT Department told her that they will be shutting down their whole system due to the worm Conficker C threat to attack computers, I knew this was something else.

I was in for an even bigger surprise when I learned that the Conficker C has been covered by no less than the CNN already. Another reporter from CBS tells how this deadly worm could possibly attack computers. A clicked link from a friend connected with you on some networking site is the trigger to get your computers infected. Hackers then can get into the information they need to wipe out bank accounts. Sounds crazy? Think again. As for me, I am going to play safe and not use the computer for the whole day tomorrow. It is better to be safe than sorry.

So what really is said to happen tomorrow? Click here for the the detailed report from CNN.

Computer expert Ken Colburn tells you how to find out if your computer is infected with the computer worm Conficker C.

Our family is looking forward to our vacation to Boracay this coming June. The little guy has started packing up his little beach shovel and other tools to make his sand castles. It is a blessing that we were able to avail of a hard to resist airfare. Hubs and I had a grand time during our honeymoon and by June, our little cutie pie Jed will be four years old, ready to relish the beauty of the beach of the island of Boracay.

We are currently choosing from two of the most recommended accommodation in Boracay. One is in Station 1 and the other in Station 2. I like the one is Station 2 better, because of its accessibility to just about everywhere. But the one in Station1 is the one that is wifi zone (3rd and 4th floors). I am actually leaving it up to the hubby.

The little guy’s tuition for the coming school year is already settled. When the majority of the expenses of the year is done, we will start saving up for a decent car. A second hand car, if things will not get better. Recession really took its toll on our online income. If we were still making as much as we did last year, we could already afford to buy a brand new one, without doubt. But I figured used cars aren’t all that bad, we really just have to hook ourselves up with a reputable seller like the people in England can via CarShop.co.uk. This is the site to look into if for quality used cars.

Meanwhile, I am now shifting in between unearthing white elephants to give away and to gather for the garage sale. I need all the space that we can get for our homeschooling corner/base here at home.

The hubby and I were married three years before we were blessed with a son. During those first years of married bliss one of the favorite things we enjoyed doing together is going to the spa. We hope to be able to try out the Spa Couples package from BlueWater Day Spa. It has been a while since we indulged in this type of royalty treatment. After having heard of countless BlueWater Day Spa recommendations, I just know it’s on top of our to have list.

Truth be told, working from home can be the most stressful of all jobs. First, I cannot really shut my child out, in the middle of work, when he asks for attention. I try my best to have him understand that mama is working, but it can be a challenge. I have learned to device ways to juggle the things I do from my work as a web content writer, to the toddler I have to take care of and teach, things that I do in between and back again to the endless cycle. One thing for sure, one has got to have strong intrinsic motivators to be able to do what I do.

This is why a spa will be a treat I would like to have every so often. A Vitalift (Flash Beauty Treatment) will also be a sweet indulgence. I am not much of a fan of invasive procedures, so this the one that I will ever go through when it comes to facials. I’m sure that will be review worthy that I will post live via my beauty blog – KikayCorner.net

Now that BlueWater Day Spa Capitol Hills branch is open, I will be the most thrilled to drag the hubs with me one of these days and just soak ourselves in treatments fit for a queen and her king.

One of the more prevailing things that I discuss with my youth counselees is of the nature of dating. Most of them are over their dating issues but it does not mean the struggle is non-existent. There are even issues that can be persistent, but we are happy that they find the support system from our church family to be able to wind up as victors through it all.

With a sexually charged society that we have, the young people are actually fooled into the fantasy of the dating game– a game that gets a whole handful of hearts broken, at the end of the day. It is important to be aware how to conduct oneself while dating. It is actually a good indicator of the kind of commitment that you want to have in your future relationships. The race towards engagement rings is really overrated. What are you going to do with a wedding, when you end up getting divorced sooner than you got engaged?

dating

So far, I am happy with the progress my girls are showing since I started seeing them. If you knew the community in Makati that we are serving, you will be surprised that a big percentage practices common-law marriage. This erodes morality a great deal and if nothing is done, they will inevitably follow that path.

It blesses my heart to see they want better lives, after suffering the cruelties of dysfunctional families. As true as the world is but imperfect, the fact remains that God’s grace is sufficient and this is the core of whatever it is we share with them, whatever circumstance they are in.  There’s nothing like dating God’s way.

Parents have such great influence on our child. Aside from the obvious that we pass on the character that we have to them from early childhood to the developments along the way as he grows up. It all boils down to the concern of bringing up a healthy, God fearing individual who one day will be able to answer more than just the question, “What do you want to be when you grow up?”

A child’s social competence, school readiness, curiosity usually predetermines his success in school and career choices. One thing that parents should avoid is the premeditation of what career a child should take. This usually becomes an issue during a child’s adolescence. Self estimation should always be considered, and we should allow them to that. It might be true that you more than any other person should see the giftings of your child, encourage him every step of the way, but the decision has got to come from him. Chances are he might not have the same career in mind at adolescence than the one he will decide on when he’s ready for college.

If he would rather be enrolled in an electrical school when he grows up, so be it. Read the rest of this entry »

We are thrilled to have been a part of Krispy Kreme Chocolate Karnival Launch that was held today at Bonifacio High Street. I wouldn’t miss it for the world. It was in November 30, 2006 when the hubby and I lined up for atleast a couple of hours for the official launch of Krispy Kreme in the country. Here are our pictures from that event. We were there as early as 5 A.M. and the line was already looong! Imagine all those hours in line – you’ll be surprised roots did not grow from the soles of our feet! (lol) Â Apparently, the Philippines even broke Asia’s records for the Longest Line, Most Doughnuts Sold and the Earliest Customer to Fall in Line. What passion for such celebrated sweet treat! :-) Jed was too young to have joined us that time, but this time around this little guy of ours came with us as we covered the event of another momentous milestone for Krispy Kreme. He loved every minute of it. :D

As a self confessed chocoholic, I knew that I couldn’t miss the launch of Krispy Kreme Chocolate Karnival. It is a welcome addition to my list of favorite things. In fact the moment I heard of Krispy Kreme coming up with yet another yummy treat, I began glazing people in my email account and sent them some complimentary chocolate glazed donut and signature coffee as early as two days ago via www.chocolatekarnival.com.

This new addition combines the pillowy perfection of the original glazed Krispy Kreme doughnuts with the rich, decadent gloss of chocolate. There are a whole array of variants of Krispy Kreme Chocolate Karnival that are must tries for that satisfied sweet palate.

working-definitionsHaving an inquisitive three year old kid can sometimes be stressful for a work from home mom like me. But I knew that I have got to get around this issue somehow, taking care not to put a halt to a child’s hardworking mind. This is why parenting tips like those of Biblical Parenting, really come in handy.

I pick up some tips and customize it to fit how my son’s personality and figure out from the output if he is responding positively or otherwise. I love this ride to motherhood.  It must be one of the most rewarding roles ever.

One of their more interesting topics is working on definitions with my son. The best time for learning is when the child’s mind is open, just like when he is in his ever inquisitive mood or even during times when he is trying to figure things out, playing with words.

True, one of my recent posts got us all set for a no summer getaway. But can you really blame us if we take advantage of an airline promo? As a result, we are officially booked for Bora this coming June. Yes, June. Just in time before we blast off to the real deal –homeschooling.

Now that the airfare is taken care of, the next deal is to look for a good place to stay in, although a free hotel stay wouldn’t hurt. I wish! We will be there for four days. We are thrilled to go back to where we spent our honeymoon more than seven years ago,  this time with our li’l tot in tow.

Here’s when I ask for suggestions. We really could use a cheap but decent accommodation. We stayed in Pearl of the Pacific during our honeymoon in 2001 and we learned that we don’t really need a fancy hotel room because we only spent time inside the room for a few hours, just to sleep. We were almost always on the beach, gallivanting through and through.

We would really appreciate any input and suggestions. It has been almost eight years since we last visited Bora. “Talipapa” was still standing during that time. We will sure be surprised with all the progress. I even heard there already is a mall! I cannot imagine!

Our supposed “No summer getaway” might just about turn out to be the most exciting summer ever!

It has been a good five years since I started web blogging and with four domain babies that I currently have, I can say that I am more than just enjoying it. My first blog entry was posted in one of the free Baby Journal sites, then I shifted to a social network site. It was in that social network site that I have done blogging –full blast.

Marriage and Beyond was the first domain that I claimed. After four hours of looking into parenting/marriage related domains, I almost gave up until I found peace in the domain Marriage and Beyond. I claimed it at around 4 A.M. and the other domains came all in from like the same sudden surge of inspiration and vision.

earthhour.jpg

This was the candle that our family lit during Earth Hour 2008. It was set at 8P.M. March 29, 2008.  Our family intends to join the Earth Hour this year just like we did last year.  We are thrilled to see that the promotion of Earth Hour is more widespread now than it was the previous years. Earth Hour 2009 is set at 8:30 P.M. to 9:30 P.M, March 28, 2009, Saturday.

Our individual contribution is simple.  The only thing we have to do is to turn off all the lights for one full hour.  It might seem trivial but you have to believe the numbers when it came back that approximately 100 million people participated in Earth Hour 2008.   A million of which are Filipinos.

Here’s an excerpt from Department of Energy of Earth Hour 2008:

Last year, Earth Hour realized savings of 56 MWH of electric power in Luzon and 16 MWH in Metro Manila, equivalent to the output of a small coal-fired power plant. An estimated one million Filipinos were involved. Over 400 establishments participated by turning off their signs and non-essential lights. In Manila, Roxas Boulevard became the focal point of the celebration since it cuts across the cities of Manila, Pasay, and Paranaque, but Quezon City, Makati, and Mandaluyong also joined in the energy efficiency-promoting activity.

The numbers should be enough reason for us to participate this coming Saturday. Click on the banner above this post and be counted.

The hubby is the most athletic 33 year old that I have ever come across with. He always feels sluggish and gets tired easily whenever he misses his workouts at Marikina Sports Park. There is just this need for him to go run miles. He comes back refreshed and energized. For that I admire him more.

Remember my quest to being healthier this 2009, which defines that I do my part of working out even via my ever reliable game console? I have quit for a month now. I just cannot get myself to go back to the exercising routine. With the schedule crammed up, there is just no way I could squeeze it in. I know it is so easy to find all the excuses in the world. Maybe I really have got to do some soul searching especially about this matter. I remember feeling so much better, physically, whenever I do my workouts. My back is starting to hurt again like before.

shoebaccaBut before that, I think I have got to pull the hubby again to get me a pair of running shoes. For some reason, whenever we go to sports depot, I just won’t find the pair that suits me, or atleast the one that I would really like to wear for some time. I think my tiny feet look awful when I try on bulky shoes. Read the rest of this entry »

While it is true that we really cannot prevent stress from creeping into our everyday lives, there are things we can do to manage them. As a work from home mom, I have both full time careers to take care of. That doubles the responsibilities that I already have and a “Me Time” is but a necessity, to somehow keep me from losing sanity. Believe me, it’s tough work. Especially now that I am to figure out how things should work when school year starts for the little guy.

imageshowjpgI love massages and with the stresses that I am exposed to on a daily basis, lines showing up here and there are but inevitable. Once in a while I treat myself to self conducted microdermabrasion. Read the rest of this entry »
