My husband and I are happy with my son’s progress in his Karate class. He has been with the class for two months now and so far he is enjoying every session he has with them and we see his skills progress. As homeschoolers, we really are not compelled to enroll our son in a supplementary subject like Piano, Voice, Karate or Taekwondo. But we found that it will benefit him as it further reinforces the need for discipline. Before that the only socialization he had was Sunday School classes.
I am blessed enough to have a va task that allows me to be flexible. I did double shift today so that I can focus on our 9th anniversary celebration as we head over to Tagaytay early today. Although we can’t really call it a real vacation, it is nice enough that we can get away from it all even just for a day and just celebrate.
It was last week of October when I got an email from best-selling author Anthony DeStefano, asking if I was willing to look at his newest book, “Little Star.” And with a little reader for a son, I figured a Christmas book should be a good addition to my five year old son’s growing collection of books.
As it turns out, Anthony DeStefano’s Little Star is not your ordinary Christmas Story book for kids. As opposed to all other stories about Christmas for children being told the same way, Little Star is a refreshing change. Not that there is anything wrong with the story we grew up with. It’s basically because the nativity account, this time, is being told from the perspective of the stars. The book was beautifully illustrated by Mark Elloitt, who did a good job at giving life to the characters. My son really got hooked and we were moved as we went along.
I actually was not expecting our 2011 calendars to come in time for Christmas. We all know how delayed snail mails arrive during the holiday season. But here they are! We ordered these 11 x 8.5 calendars from Arts Cow, with the pictures and layout that we want — with the verses too. Read the rest of this entry »
Our little guy was more thrilled than I was when this package came in the mail today. He also did not waste a second. He read on as he placed his Childcraft book aside. I will post a review of the Little Star soon. Thanks to Anthony DeStefano who contacted me himself last month and offered to give us a free copy of his season appropriate book. I browsed through the pages and I already love the illustrations!
Last month I received a birthday coupon from LJC Bankard that entitles me (and the hubby) to 50% off our tab when we dine it at any LJC restaurant. We only had until this month to claim so we headed over to Abe before we went to The Spa to claim another gift check I won from Between Bites blog contest last March. :-)
It was last night when it dawned on me that today is going to be a year since Typhoon Ondoy. You will find my posts here and here about what happened to us and our family last year. I cannot help too but look back with utmost gratitude at God’s faithfulness to us. It is one of those times that God has affirmed that His grace is truly sufficient.
“My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” 2 Corinthians 12:9
Typhoon Ondoy taught us a lot of things. The very first being is for us not to ever rely on material things. Anything at all can just be washed away by whatever the Lord allows in His omniscience. He is God and we are not. Nothing in this world is permanent. Everything is on borrowed time, even our very lives. The Lord’s faithfulness during that time in our lives were sent through friends and loved ones who saw us through. Remembering God’s goodness to us through you overflows our hearts with gratitude.
One of the many good things you get when you’re a shutterbug is stumbling upon photos that you have forgotten you have ever taken. Like this unedited shot for instance. Timestamp: March 1, 2010.
My husband and I share the same birth month. He is exactly a year and 15 days older than me and he will soon turn 3-5! Two weeks until then! I’m not sure why I always get more excited about his birthday than mine. Celebrating the day of his birth has always been meaningful to me.
My son and I attended Canon’s Be Inspired with Canon Creative Park event last Saturday at the Top Shelf in Bonifacio Highstreet.
Unlike other events, I did not find any familiar face in the crowd. But it was going to be a busy time for the little guy and I anyway, so we did not mind. My son helped himself with a lot of things as the program went along. He especially helped himself as he went back and forth to the buffet table.
Father’s Day will be on June 20, 2010. That will be less than three weeks away. While we cannot deny the reality of the epidemic of missing fathers, we should nonetheless celebrate fathers who have stood up as the head of the family that they are purposed to be. If truth will be told, a whole bunch of fathers are but taken for granted. Just because they are expected to provide and protect their respective families, they should be left unappreciated. Methinks fathers should be appreciated and affirmed more by their loved ones.
