My son and I recently attended the Swag Junior “Revolution of Cool” Launch Party held in One Shangri-la Place. I love it when I see kids who love to dress up. It’s just fun to see them knowing what they want and confident in the way they style themselves, sometimes even without an adult’s help.
Here’s a confession. I have tried several times to get my son to like to shop for clothes, to no avail. The most recent one was more of a need since most of his pants, he’s already outgrown! He got really impatient shopping that he asked if he could forego the “fitting” portion of buying. That’s defeating the purpose of why we were there to begin with! Then, he went, “hindi po ba pwdeng tantyahin nalang?” Oh my goodness! It was easy to find myself getting impatient when this happens. We ended up just buying him a pair of size 30 pants and three shirts. He’d rather bury himself in books than go shopping. But one thing I could pat myself on the back for, is that he’s okay when he accompanies me to shop. He’ll just find himself a spot where he can sit and read and he’s good. Life skills. That, I believe, his future wife is going to love me for. Haha!
It may not just be in our tween’s personality, or he may just be a late bloomer. Who knows. For now, I’ll just let him be. Make suggestions here and there. But I’m leaving the decision making up to him. Unless it’s a real eye sore, then I’ll have him rummage for a better set of clothes from his closet. Ha!
But for other cool kids, they know what they want in how they want to dress up and that’s totally swag. It’s always nice seeing kids confident to express themselves in the way they dress up.
