“Sure Ka Ba?” A Water Safety Awareness Campaign by Unilever

So my son and I got to view this video I’m sharing below and we both looked at each other in disbelief right after watching. He afterwards quipped, “And we have been doing this for years!” That’s true. We have our drinking water delivered from our village mineral water provider for as long as we can remember. And what happened in this clip is every bit a possibility, given that we don’t have one bit of control in how our drinking water provider go about their business. And that’s just from the other end. From our end, how detailed do I really get to have that receptacle of the water dispenser where the snout of the water bottle goes cleaned? If you haven’t noticed that’s the hardest part to clean in the dispenser. Double yikes!

Incidentally, Unilever Philippines, through its state-of-the-art water purifier – Pureit, recently launched this Water Safety Awareness Campaign to empower household consumers to question the safety of their drinking water, and in so doing, protect the health of their families. Now that sure is everyone’s concern.

During the campaign launch, two product demonstrations were held to showcase the efficacy of Pureit in eliminating microscopic disease-causing germs and bacteria. The demonstrations were conducted by the Unilever Research and Development team and a microbiologist from SGS, the world’s leading inspection, verification, testing and certification company. In one of the demos, germ powder was poured into two containers. One with tap water (right) that did not go through Pureit and the other that went through the purification process of Pureit. These were placed under the UV light to check for imperfection. The container that went through PureIt has zero trace of the germ that was poured in before it went through the system. These were done right before our very eyes and we all were plenty amazed how the Unilever Pureit rocked it!

The “Sure Ka Ba?” Campaign launch was held at the Avida Showroom in Glorietta Center, Makati City where Pureit demo units were on display for the month of September. Avida, one of the country’s leading real estate developers for the mid-market segment of the industry, supports Unilever and Pureit in their effort to provide households with access to safe drinking water to ensure their health.

A quick fact: According to the 2013 Kantar Worldpanel In-Home Packaged Water Report, roughly 60 percent of urban households buy their drinking water from water refilling stations.

“Through the video, we wanted to show households, especially the moms, how refilled water can easily be contaminated due to improper handling and transport of containers and other human factors. This, in turn, can pose health risks for the family, especially the children,” said Brian Duruin, Pureit brand manager.

Another quick fact: Diarrhea, cholera and typhoid fever are included in the list of The United Nations Children’s Fund as some of the deadly diseases that can be triggered by drinking contaminated water.

To help address this concern, Unilever introduced Pureit Excella, an in-home, non-electric water purifier that converts tap water into clean and safe drinking water. The 5-Step purification process of Pureit elminates 99.9999% of bacteria, viruses and parasites, making sure it meets the stringent safety standards of the US Environmental Protection Agency and World Health Organization (WHO).
