Remembering the Sabbath

One Sunday morning, a man shouted to his wife in the living room, “Honey, I don’t feel like going to church today. I just want to stay in bed and continue my sleep.” His wife said, “No, honey, you need to get up, eat your breakfast and get ready for church.” He replied, “Okay, but first give me three reasons why I need to go to church?” The man’s wife entered their bedroom and with both hands on her hips answered, “Alright I’ll give you one reason. You are the pastor, so you need to get up now!”

A lot of us can relate to the man in that story. Sometimes we feel like we have to force ourselves to go to church and try to make excuses not to go to church.

But, God made it a point to include in His Ten Commandments the importance of working for six days and resting on the seventh. The question is why?

I believe it is because it provides benefits for us physically, relationally, emotionally and spiritually especially if we really take time to relax all the aspects just mentioned and recommit them to God allow God to be at its center on a weekly basis.

I hope we’ll all find time to go to church today and I hope husbands would take the lead and not be the ones to be dragged.

“Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another-and all the more as you see the Day approaching.” Hebrews 10:25
