Why Discipline Your Child?

Why is disciplining a child very important? The Bible shares two practical reasons.First, disciplining our children is an evidence that we love them.Proverbs 13.24 says, “He who withholds his rod hates his son, but he who loves him disciplines him diligently.” Sometimes we can see children doing things that are wrong on purpose. It is one way of seeking attention and when careful discipline is not applied a child could feel that we as parents don’t care enough about him or her because we let him get away with anything.

A second reason why disciplining a child is very important is it shows that we are participating in his or her destruction if we don’t do it.Proverbs 19:18 says, “Chasten your son while there is hope, and do not set your heart on his destruction. When we do not diligently discipline our children we make them liabilities instead of assets to the society.Furthermore, we are not contributing to their betterment.

The New Dare to Discipline

A book that I would recommend is “The New Dare to Discipline” by Dr. James C. Dobson. It is a revision and update of the book, “Dare to Discipline” and it shows how to apply consistent, loving discipline to children which results in mutual respect and self-control.
