One of the more prevailing things that I discuss with my youth counselees is of the nature of dating. Most of them are over their dating issues but it does not mean the struggle is non-existent. There are even issues that can be persistent, but we are happy that they find the support system from our church family to be able to wind up as victors through it all.

With a sexually charged society that we have, the young people are actually fooled into the fantasy of the dating game– a game that gets a whole handful of hearts broken, at the end of the day. It is important to be aware how to conduct oneself while dating. It is actually a good indicator of the kind of commitment that you want to have in your future relationships. The race towards engagement rings is really overrated. What are you going to do with a wedding, when you end up getting divorced sooner than you got engaged?

dating

So far, I am happy with the progress my girls are showing since I started seeing them. If you knew the community in Makati that we are serving, you will be surprised that a big percentage practices common-law marriage. This erodes morality a great deal and if nothing is done, they will inevitably follow that path.

It blesses my heart to see they want better lives, after suffering the cruelties of dysfunctional families. As true as the world is but imperfect, the fact remains that God’s grace is sufficient and this is the core of whatever it is we share with them, whatever circumstance they are in.  There’s nothing like dating God’s way.

We are thrilled to have been a part of Krispy Kreme Chocolate Karnival Launch that was held today at Bonifacio High Street. I wouldn’t miss it for the world. It was in November 30, 2006 when the hubby and I lined up for atleast a couple of hours for the official launch of Krispy Kreme in the country. Here are our pictures from that event. We were there as early as 5 A.M. and the line was already looong! Imagine all those hours in line – you’ll be surprised roots did not grow from the soles of our feet! (lol) Â Apparently, the Philippines even broke Asia’s records for the Longest Line, Most Doughnuts Sold and the Earliest Customer to Fall in Line. What passion for such celebrated sweet treat! :-) Jed was too young to have joined us that time, but this time around this little guy of ours came with us as we covered the event of another momentous milestone for Krispy Kreme. He loved every minute of it. :D

As a self confessed chocoholic, I knew that I couldn’t miss the launch of Krispy Kreme Chocolate Karnival. It is a welcome addition to my list of favorite things. In fact the moment I heard of Krispy Kreme coming up with yet another yummy treat, I began glazing people in my email account and sent them some complimentary chocolate glazed donut and signature coffee as early as two days ago via www.chocolatekarnival.com.

This new addition combines the pillowy perfection of the original glazed Krispy Kreme doughnuts with the rich, decadent gloss of chocolate. There are a whole array of variants of Krispy Kreme Chocolate Karnival that are must tries for that satisfied sweet palate.

earthhour.jpg

This was the candle that our family lit during Earth Hour 2008. It was set at 8P.M. March 29, 2008.  Our family intends to join the Earth Hour this year just like we did last year.  We are thrilled to see that the promotion of Earth Hour is more widespread now than it was the previous years. Earth Hour 2009 is set at 8:30 P.M. to 9:30 P.M, March 28, 2009, Saturday.

Our individual contribution is simple.  The only thing we have to do is to turn off all the lights for one full hour.  It might seem trivial but you have to believe the numbers when it came back that approximately 100 million people participated in Earth Hour 2008.   A million of which are Filipinos.

Here’s an excerpt from Department of Energy of Earth Hour 2008:

Last year, Earth Hour realized savings of 56 MWH of electric power in Luzon and 16 MWH in Metro Manila, equivalent to the output of a small coal-fired power plant. An estimated one million Filipinos were involved. Over 400 establishments participated by turning off their signs and non-essential lights. In Manila, Roxas Boulevard became the focal point of the celebration since it cuts across the cities of Manila, Pasay, and Paranaque, but Quezon City, Makati, and Mandaluyong also joined in the energy efficiency-promoting activity.

The numbers should be enough reason for us to participate this coming Saturday. Click on the banner above this post and be counted.

While it is true that we really cannot prevent stress from creeping into our everyday lives, there are things we can do to manage them. As a work from home mom, I have both full time careers to take care of. That doubles the responsibilities that I already have and a “Me Time” is but a necessity, to somehow keep me from losing sanity. Believe me, it’s tough work. Especially now that I am to figure out how things should work when school year starts for the little guy.

imageshowjpgI love massages and with the stresses that I am exposed to on a daily basis, lines showing up here and there are but inevitable. Once in a while I treat myself to self conducted microdermabrasion. Read the rest of this entry »

Our family is going to tread another milestone and boy are we excited!  We are happy that our son will have the best education and have it right from home.  For those who have just recently stumbled upon this site, we will have him go through School of Tomorrow’s curriculum.  We have heard a few detractors about this kind of set up but we will figure something out and have him meet fellow homeschoolers during weekends.

homeschoolThere are a lot of things to do and there is no way to do this by cramming.  I have got to get myself oriented, for one. Although the hubby has attended the administrator’s training a few years back  (which is practically a license for him to set up his own school), we still have got to know the dynamics of homeschooling.  This can be the most exciting time yet for our little guy.

As fun as I know it is going to be, I am so threatened by the fact that I am no way qualified to join the race. This Detour, bloggers’ adventure that is going to be held at Island Cove in Cavite tomorrow, obviously is a physical game and I am no way fit to join the pack.  I don’t know what happened. But for some reason, at least three pounds have been added to my weight, when I checked today at the hospital where my sister is confined. This explains my clothes failing to fit me like they used to.

The long wait is over.  I should have actually bought this site’s own domain a couple of months back when it lost its page rank.  But I was too busy and I always wanted to claim domains when I get a certain inspiration, even vision for its existence.  That was exactly what happened when I finally got its very own home- to the tune of  an online shop of two of my favorite organic beauty products.  It is now my brand new baby.  Go visit KikayCorner.net © when you get the chance. Drop a line or two, if you may.

I will probably be back blogging Sunday afternoon, the earliest. It was after the documentary shoot of a group of Letran college students conducted here in our home this evening that I realized our schedule is packed for the whole weekend.

The hubby and I are thrilled to attend the blogger’s event that is going to be held in SM Marikina tomorrow. I just might be able to catch the last batch of their sale promotion, while I’m there. I will just post some updates in the coming days.

The hubby and I are so looking forward to a neat adventure this coming week. It will be one whole day thing and we have to gear up for that Amazing Race type of adventure. He is so clueless how I am going to endure anything physical, I told him off with my watch-and-see look. ;-) Which reminds me that I have to be more regular with my workouts. As we prepare for that big day, we had to check all the essentials. The hubby definitely needs a pair of decent shoes that he will need to over take everyone else in the game.

shoebacca

Incidentally, I found what is possibly the neatest internet shoe shopping site Shoebacca.com. It fits us to a T. I am so meticulous when it comes to online shopping and this is the only one that guarantees clients up to a 120%. The guarantee is that if you find another site that lists the same exact product that they have at a lower price, they will refund us 120% of the price difference. What online shopping site offers that? None!

After seeing the Retro Air Jordans that our little guy received for Christmas, I am looking into getting a pair of retro shoes of my own and maybe a pair of Retro Nike for the hubby to match ours.  It has been a number of good years already that online shopping has provided convenience for me and the discovery of sites like this makes it all better. I do not just experience convenience but am actually guaranteed a better value for our money.

Was it only a couple of months back that we were actually rejoicing over the big slump of gas prices? It is bad enough that the prices of commodities did not follow through. Now it is slowly retracing to where it was. Hard times- it’s inevitable and has definitely gone global. We just choose to thank the Lord whatever our circumstances are. He is the ultimate source of provision. Truth be told, whatever profession we all are in, He could easily just take it away if He wants to. We are totally at His disposal and it comforts my heart big time that He will never have us want.

myjed1

I’m relieved that the hubs has stopped talking about getting a motorbike, even in passing. He used to be so convinced it’s going to save us on gas.  The thought of him riding the two wheels really scares me. Especially so that we don’t have anything like motorcycle accident lawyers Los Angeles, in the third world. If you’ve seen him drive a car, you’ll understand why. The gentle man that he is, overly compensates in the way he drives. Even when our son was still two years old, I remember Jed being so thrilled as he says goodbye to all those cars that his father leaves on the road.

Imagine the shock of my life when our son Jed told me yesterday, “Mama when I grow up I am going to race for you.” Oh no! I actually had to ask him to say it again.  His father was not around then to give me the look. Oh my son! I told him that he doesn’t have to do it for me and he quickly quipped, “I have to,” with complete confidence. What can I say, I’m totally at a loss for words. I know that sooner or later he is going to do things that I do not necessarily approve of. I just pray that the Lord would provide me the wisdom to teach and strength to let go, when I should,  in each and every phase of his growing up years. Meanwhile, I am going to enjoy loving my baby and nurture him in this family that the Lord has provided him.

img_1183A quick date was what the hubby and I had last night, right after the Sassa Summer Collection Fashion event that I attended. We rarely getaway from our little guy. Not that we don’t want him around, but a married couple has got to take time alone together sometime. It’s one of the inconveniences of being nanny-less, I admit. But we’re doing good so far.

The hubby and I were invited last Thursday to a gathering over dinner in connection with the Tulay Program, a partnership of Microsoft and Blas Ople Foundation that provides free computer classes for OFWs and their dependents. As ministers, this venture is an encouragement to both me and Jeff. After all the negativities of our society and the current situation that can really gripe our senses into hopelessness, if we dwell on it, the existence of such program can really be a refreshing one. Apparently, the project dates back to 2003 and now they have launched they it across the country, even overseas to reach out to Filipinos working abroad.

abe

with fellow bloggers, graduates of the program, trainers and a couple of media people from Inquirer.net

The hubby and I were given the opportunity to meet with a few of their pioneers who graduated from the program. The first that told us her story was Elisa Moran, she used to be an OFW based in the Middle East and she is now a queen of her very own business which started last year. It was a blessing to know that at 60 years old she unraveled the path of technology starting from scratch. I went giddy when she went excited over announcing she now has her own Facebook account, which I found really groovy.  ;-) These social networking sites aren’t just for the youngsters, you know. The program emphasizes the importance of the knowledge of OFW families to know how to go about communicating via the internet. This will save the families a lot of money instead of going by the traditional overseas calls.

I was the most fascinated by Lola Buhay Tan’s story. She is also a graduate of the program and she is 80 years old! She is a living proof that the saying “Old dogs can’t learn new tricks” is a total fallacy. What ultimately motivated this sweet lady to acquire the computer skills that she now has is the hope that she will be able to communicate with her nine children. Some of her children are based in the United States, Middle East and Europe. And mind you, she also has her very own Facebook account. What an encouragement.

After having changed a couple of our pin light bulbs recently, the hubby and I wondered if all those claims from light bulb manufacturers are ever true. We bought one of the bulbs that supposedly lasts three years at least and it did not even last us six months!

With all the talks of going green, anyone would understand why we, in our household try to patronize all natural products that do not harm the environment.  Incidentally, I have read about  Green Torch. This company was featured in AlterEco , Discovery Channel’s planetgreen show. Definitely one of its kind in the United States. They provide the most sophisticated but green LED Lighting. LED Light Bulbs from Green Torch surpass the energy efficiency of the ones available in the market. It is guaranteed unlike all those that we have bought.

Green Torch uses LEDs that are pigment infused that allows better color quality that is rather not possible from your common energy efficient light bulbs. This explains why all those that we formerly bought claim of a particular brightness but never seem to deliver.

What is sweet about patronizing Green Torch’s products is that you get to do your share in saving our environment because the lights that they manufacture reduces energy consumption significantly, even waste production and CO2 emissions. It is the little things we do that count a lot.

1. I’d really like to clean up my closet right now. (I have been stalling for weeks)

2. Ouch! is the word you’d most often hear me say if I stubbed my toe.

3. Possession is tangible.

4. Coolness is Captain Jack Sparrow.

5. Marshmallows and fire go together like the hubs and me.

6. When it’s about my little guy, I could go on and on.

7. And as for the weekend, tonight I’m looking forward to watching “Doubt”, tomorrow my plans include general cleaning with my weekend girl, maybe go with the hubs to his soccer game against Claret Alumni in the afternoon and Sunday, I want to go to church to worship and fellowship with our church family!

After having read Twilight’s complete series and Midnight Sun last month,  I cannot help but get hooked on reading e-books via my cheap flip LG mobile.  I love books, always have.  I have tons at home courtesy of my Uncle from the states who chose us as recipients of what could be considered an inheritance.  Aside from the books that I have purchased through the years and a handful of others given as gifts.  Mama told me she did not wear glasses until she was 50.  I hope I get that good gene from her.  I think 50 would be acceptable age for me to wear one.  I am really not very comfy wearing spectacles.  I get sweaty around the nose a lot and glasses irritates my whole mid face region.  Weird, eh?
