When the hubby and I received an invite last week for Max’s Pre-Valentine event happening on our 14th anniversary as a couple, we were not able to confirm right away since we were not sure if we will be celebrating elsewhere. But since we are slated to go to Batangas on V Day, we thought we can drop by and check out Max’s Valentine offering.

True enough, Max’s Valentine event cannot be more timely. The theme was love and and everything sweet. We have known and loved Max’s Caramel Bars for as long as we can remember but have not really tried for ourselves their other offerings.

One of the most exciting times a woman can have is the time between being asked for her hand and the moment she says, “I do”. This is an amazing time because the woman finally gets to plan and execute the wedding of her dreams. Even if she has a small budget, there are most certainly ways she can cut corners and still be very happy and proud of her glorious day. Read the rest of this entry »

Interflora Valentine's Day survey infographic

I have always known that I am part of the minority. I don’t like flowers on Valentine’s Day or any other occasion for that matter. I would rather receive chocolates or practical things that I can use. People oftentimes don’t get me. But I’m really just different that way. I’d rather get a flower in a pot. That way I don’t have to witness it wither too soon.

But as for the hubby and I and and two of our blogger friends, Iris and Montsch, we will celebrating hearts day in a lovely place somewhere in Batangas. It will be a double date for us. Maybe our not so little guy in tow to stand as our human tripod again. Meanwhile, I hope to share with you this interesting Valentine’s Day survey infographic by Interflora. :-)

The hubby and I will be turning 14 years old in the coming weeks. Yes, we do not just celebrate our wedding anniversary. We also celebrate the day that we first became a couple. It was on February 10, 1997 when we decided that we are going to exclusively date.

He pursued me for a while. But then again, given that I always knew that he was the one for me, I thought we might as well call it official. Here is the link to our love story.

Since I have not exactly given him a decent gift last Christmas, no not even the nfl t shirts that I was eyeing on purchasing online, a quick trip to Batangas might just be our way to celebrate. We both can make use of a time out. :-)

The year Twenty Ten sure has breezed through right in front of us – just like that! But it did not just come and soon to go without making a mark. The blessings were aplenty, if I would have to list down each and every one of them.

You Are Love to Me
by Jeffrey Aspacio

You are love to me
Your sweet and passionate ways
For me and our son

Nine years we are now
Years mixed with discoveries
New joys and sorrows

But every new thing
Is a journey for us both
Something to conquer

Something to outgrow
For each new challenge we face
Stronger we become

We can get focused
On little details in life
And important things

But you remind me
How important our love is
Greater than pitfalls

In our ninth year
May we remain in God’s ways
To serve Him always

Thank your life
For choosing me as your mate
Father of our son

You showed acceptance
Forgiveness now and again
You are love to me

Since our booking for Bangkok did not push through in time for our 9th anniversary, we figured we will have to make do with spending some quality, albeit quick time on our 9th! We trooped to our favorite hideaway – Tagaytay!

I surprised the hubby with a cake! Although he probably does not have a fiber in him that will go giddy over some frilly cake, I risked it. Because I really wanted to give him something that’s unpredictable and he’ll always remember our 9th anniversary by (even via its pictures).  He was surprised all right. But not as thrilled as when he got his real anniversary gift – Philippine Football Team jersey. But boy did he love the cake’s ultra moist and its just right sweetness.  Thanks, Iris of PH Bakehouse and her artsy hubby, Marcelle! We love our 9th anniversary cake to bits! (literally) Although I would have to add that it was a really pain to slice that cake up. It was too pretty!

But of course, we weren’t slicing that cake up without having that all-important photo op. And that is also why we made sure we tagged the kiddo along. Haha! A tripod just ain’t no fun. ;-)

I am blessed enough to have a va task that allows me to be flexible. I did double shift today so that I can focus on our 9th anniversary celebration as we head over to Tagaytay early today. Although we can’t really call it a real vacation, it is nice enough that we can get away from it all even just for a day and just celebrate. :-)

Nine days to go and we will be celebrating our 9th wedding anniversary! (insert fireworks here) I really want to make it different for Jeff this time. I have so gotten used to not giving him anything for any occasion and I take for granted that it isn’t such a big deal for him.

Marriage and Beyond turns 3 years old today! :-) From that fateful wee hour of November 27, 2007, when I finally had peace with the domain name to this post, being the 1, 466th. It took me from 9pm of Nov. 26 to 4am of Nov 27 when I claimed it as ours. All the good “family oriented” domain names must have been all taken and I wasn’t just about to settle for second best. :-)

We originally planned to hold an anniversary contest just like last year’s. With one of our local Christian bookstore pledging their support of giving away good books about marriage and parenting. But because there are just too many things on our plate, I never got around to doing it.

The Marriage Builders Workbook was one of the materials that we used when we started our Couples group in church several years back.  And we enjoyed it thoroughly! Now that we have probably lost that precious workbook that was passed down to us by my Uncle, to Ondoy, it is just neat to know that we can still find some bits and pieces of Dr. Harley’s insights via books and the internet.  He is the author of the best-selling book “His Needs, Her Needs: Building an Affair Proof Marriage.”

Dr. Harley gave a list of general examples of things a man can do to show affection to his wife and check them off the list as he does.  We all know that men are rather trained (whether consciously or otherwise) to not be very demonstrative. Even young boys are discouraged to shed a tear and are brainwashed to think that “Boys Don’t Cry.” Given that affection is something that is learned, it can be a little frustrating to some wives how husbands just want them to take their words for it that they love them and that’s that.

  1. Hug and kiss your wife and tell her you love her every morning while you’re still in bed. Rub her back for a few minutes before you get up.
  2. Tell her that you love her while you are having breakfast together.
  3. Kiss her and tell her you love her before you leave for work.

Last month I received a birthday coupon from LJC Bankard that entitles me (and the hubby) to 50% off our tab when we dine it at any LJC restaurant.  We only had until this month to claim so we headed over to Abe before we went to The Spa to claim another gift check I won from Between Bites blog contest last March.  :-)

Quotations on love abound all around. There are silly ones and there are the ones that make sense.

It is impossible to fall out of love. Love is such a powerful emotion, that once it envelops you it does not depart. True love is eternal. Read the rest of this entry »

“Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life” (Proverbs 4:23)

The verse above is what we encourage other married couples to hold on to. It is so easy to get distracted by things around us. More often than not, that one time leads to mistake that your family will have to pay consequence for the rest of your life. In our culture where we see marriages break apart, left and right,  it is easy to just settle on the thought that it is never gonna get better.

While I know my being married to my husband for 9 years will not exactly give us that strong authority to talk about marriage, we firmly believe we have what, or should I say, “Who” it takes to have a marriage that only gets better through the years. This is not because we are great individuals. On the contrary, we are broken individuals bound to be unselfish but choose to have the Lord mend and mold us to the husband and wife He has designed us to be.

My husband and I share the same birth month. He is exactly a year and 15 days older than me and he will soon turn 3-5! Two weeks until then! I’m not sure why I always get more excited about his birthday than mine. Celebrating the day of his birth has always been meaningful to me.
