It is not unbeknownst to our dear readers that we, from time to time attend blogger events, launches and the like. While we know that there are some people who are absolutely appalled at the idea of brands taking advantage of the online media (and vice versa), we figured that it really is just a matter of filtering through the invites.  For one, there are a handful of innovative brands and services that we came to know via this avenue.

So when I learned about Blogapalooza holding its very first event last month, well, let’s just say, I was curious to check it out. Aside from being able to catch up with blogger friends, I also got to hear from brands (most of which we already patronize) and got acquainted with an interesting few that we only heard about at the event.  It was all in all a very good avenue that WhenInManila came up with that allowed for brands to be introduced to the online community. If there is one thing we cannot ignore in our monthly roster of bills, it is the electricity bill — Meralco bill, for us who are based in Manila. Trying to ignore it is really not an option. Else you will find your family literally walk in the dark. I have mentioned in a few of my previous posts that I have a mom who is very prudent. I would like to think that this is one of  the few values I acquired from her through my growing years.

I grew up being conscious of our Meralco bill/electricity consumption. Hence, it is a default for me to not just turn off but unplug appliances that are not in use. My 6 year old son is benefiting as well even as I see him doing the same. It was during an event by Meralco last week that I learned that the Meralco AppCal is now available for download via our gadgets - iPhone, Blackberry and Android. Talk about giving us zero excuse to not be informed when it comes to us being able to take control of our electricity consumption. Thank you, Meralco! My mom will really love this App! I will have to get her an Android unit though. Wait, did I mention that one of her routines during the day (aside from blogging and her soap operas) is checking the electric meters and jotting the readings on her notebook? It used to really annoy me. But then again, it’s the OC in her that we all can actually learn from. Maybe to help us become better stewards of things that are given us.  :-)

Aside from Meralco providing us this ingenious AppCal phone application, Meralco furthers their reach to their customers by their online presence. First, their improved website, which now has 2 sections: The Customers and The Company. The Customers provides the answers to customer concerns including electricity consumption, bill-related matters, and new account applications. While The Company is the section for corporate reports, business partnerships, stakeholder relations, and investor information. Aside from the website and the AppCal, Meralco customers can also interact through other Social Networking sites like Twitter (@meralco), Facebook and YouTube. How cool is that?

I especially find it convenient that I can Tweet and contact them via Facebook in the event that there is power outage.  Since everyone is basically connected through various social networking site through our mobiles, this actually can come in very handy.

The iRig that the hubby ordered through Amazon arrived via Johnny Air last week. He has been on it every single night fiddling with its effects, settings and whatever other things I probably might never get myself to figure out. There are just so many buttons! As soon as we got back from the the dentist’s office this morning, the hubby sat down and recorded the different instruments for the music. The song he chose to record was Hillsong Australia’s “Here in My Life.” When he was done recording all the instruments, he had me google the lyrics and got me to sing the song. If you have been following me on Twitter or Facebook, you’ll know that I have all but 7 stitches right around the site of the odontectomy procedure I underwent last Monday. I can already talk but cannot yet open my mouth wide. Laughing hurts and my left jaw is still bulging. I have been pretty much in Oatmeal Diet since the surgery. So please bear with me as I sang the song with but a barely opened mouth. It’s the hubby’s first raw recording using just his iPad, with the dynamics of the iRig and all those apps installed in it. The iPad is one nifty tool. My son and I use it in our homeschool classes, Jed has tons of books in it and the hubby is able to record music through it.

“Here in My Life” is a timely message as we remember God’s sacrifice on the cross for our sins. We also had an intimate Lord’s Supper celebration at home with my brother in law, Ted and two of our youth leaders who are sleeping over tonight. This is how we spent our Maundy/Holy Thursday.

With over a hundred applications installed on my iPhone and the hubby’s iPad, one of the more interesting ones that I have recently discovered is the KinKast iPhone Video Sharing Application. For one, I have never found any other video application that processes just as fast. Second and more importantly is the option of privately sharing the videos.

There are YouTube and Facebook video sharing options all right. But all of them are all out in the open, unlike KinKast. Parents like us take videos of our child every so often. If there is anything a work from home mom (with being a virtual assistant as a part time job) needs, it is a decent internet connection. Our home is currently wired with two postpaid subscription via PLDT myDSL and another broadband provider. The other two that we make use of are prepaid lines. All of which cannot compare to PLDT myDSL.

It was in January 2009, when I blogged about dropping a broadband subscription for PLDT myDSL Bundle Plan 1299. The package that came with the plan was the telephone line and an internet speed (DSL) originally with up to 512Kbps. The speed has since upgraded from 512Kbps to 768Kbps around September last year without hike on my monthly bill. Sweet! We are past our second year with PLDT myDSL and I cannot be more satisfied. One of the few times I had trouble with my internet speed was when our place got flooded with Ondoy, which was only but understandable. They were able to fix the problem in no time. Turned out that a wire from the box where we are connected is grounded of sorts. If there were other issues with my connection, I got their technical team on it in no time.

But with my 3 year old, overused MSI laptop which has been screaming for retirement, conked on its final lap – the hubby decided to get me a new laptop for advanced anniversary gift.

Here is why I decided on getting a G Series Lenovo laptop. One of the many benefits of being in Social Networks around the web is you get recommendations for just about anything.  It was when Arpee Lazaro plurked about his Lenovo laptop that I decided on which brand to go for my laptop replacement. Marriage and Beyond turns 3 years old today! From that fateful wee hour of November 27, 2007, when I finally had peace with the domain name to this post, being the 1, 466th. It took me from 9pm of Nov. 26 to 4am of Nov 27 when I claimed it as ours. All the good “family oriented” domain names must have been all taken and I wasn’t just about to settle for second best.

We originally planned to hold an anniversary contest just like last year’s. With one of our local Christian bookstore pledging their support of giving away good books about marriage and parenting. But because there are just too many things on our plate, I never got around to doing it.

We hope to continue to provide insight about marriage, child rearing, discipline and parenting in general as we prance towards our fourth year. Despite the obvious that we are monetizing this site, we make sure the integrity of what we believe in stays. Whether we mention company brands or write about nutrisystem reviews, we stand by the principles that we hold on to.

We are continually humbled when followers credit us for the things we do. But really, we give all the credit back to God. It is ultimately Him who has allowed us, through this site, to be a channel of blessing and provided for us even through this blog.

We have had this food blog for sometime now. The original plan is for our (authors) identity to remain anonymous. Hence, our pen names Adam & Eve. We love exploring food places and good eats and with my dear husband’s knack for smart names, we gave birth to the quirky titled food blog – My Tummy is Full.

Now that it is out in the open and even has its own fan page over at Facebook, we are now giving our readers a shout out. Just like what I did when I threw a buzz for my beauty blog for those who are looking into eye wrinkle creams and things sassy and pretty.  Now it is our food blog’s turn for some zing.

For some reason, Akismet seems to be not working so well. Spammers are able to get through it and I still get tons of “spam” comments in my inbox. Here is a word to our regular spam commenters who think their spam comments will get through – don’t count on it.

For a laptop that is as beat as my 3 year old MSI Megabook is, I know I should not be so surprised that it calls for retirement anytime soon. The last couple of weeks it bogged down on me in the middle of a very important task I was to send my client. In the end, I had to start from scratch.

Since this is the primary equipment I use for my work, we really have to start saving up for its replacement. A lot of the things I do are mostly office software related. I really do not know if its video card is the problem. I might have to get this checked and I might just extend its life to a year or two, until I am able to invest on a good brand.

One of the disadvantages of working from home is the fact that I alone are responsible for whatever equipment I use for work. It has been a week now since my laptop died on me four times a day. This despite my getting a dedicate a small fan for it to quit overheating on me. This was very inconvenient because I lost a huge portion of my unsaved work when it happened the first time.

I can say that it’s working almost like industrial computers do as it goes on and on for days on end. We currently have no budget to get a replacement for this three year old, overused laptop nor can I afford to have it repaired for a week. That’s what the service center would usually give us. I cannot yet use the netbook, even temporarily. The last time I did, my scoliosis almost got me killed (of so much pain). I have prayed about this and the Lord heeded. Even as Philippians 4:6 says, “Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.” I am just grateful enough that now my laptop is back to life. Although I did have to work on a job from scratch. One of the little things that made me smile today.

For those of you who do not yet now, I also have a beauty blog – KikayCorner.net. It has been screaming for a revamp for a while now. My online work as a virtual assistant has taken a great deal of my time, which explains the lack of updates. One of my next posts will be of this good pimple remover I discovered and a salon review. With that I hope to get KikayCorner.net promoted yet again.

Here is a website that is currently making waves and parents should be made aware of - Omegle.com. Yesterday was the first time I visited the site and it surely gave me the creeps! All one has to do was head over the site, choose between text or video chatting and you are basically hooked up with a stranger online.

While we teach our children not to talk to strangers, here is a website that just about encourages to do the opposite. We definitely have to block this from the computers in our households.  I just had to put aside the articles I’m working on about nuphedragen and a beauty review post just to get this word out about this chat site.  While people who are killing time might actually find it entertaining, it is almost certain that Omegle.com is one place where questionable individuals, perverts, even pedophiles can easily lurk in and take their prey from and no parent would want that for their children.

May 2 is World Bloggers Day. Wow! Bloggers have really gone a long way since.  My blogging journey started in 2004 via Babababies.com when I first learned that we were pregnant. I used to do the old school diary when I was younger. And I couldn’t go right back to that when I cannot anymore find those journals I have filled through the years.

Web blogging was the answer to my wanting to have every milestone of our journey towards parenting recorded. Online journal won’t rot, tarnish and yellow and they will look the same through the years. I later moved to Multiply and in the late 2007, claimed the domain for Marriage and Beyond. Our purpose for blogging since evolved to just recording milestones, to monetizing websites, to ministering to others as we share bits and pieces about marriage, parenting and everything in between.  Here is the 2005 Archive of Marriage and Beyond. This main site since gave birth to a host of different sites with their own niches.

The hubby and I are celebrating! The online campaign that we have been doing finally paid off! Not exactly paid yet. Pay out is not until next month. But learning tiny bit of tricks here and there got us to want to venture into leveling up from what we are currently doing to exploring the rest of the horizon, which used to look so blurry.

The experiments that we have done are a few of the seo tools that we were able to figure out in the campaign that we focused on. It is just fun that the things we do via the internet has become like one of our bonding moments as husband and wife. Bonding geeks, if you may. But we also make sure that we have some undivided attention, and an exclusive “us” time.

If you have read the article in the current issue of Good Housekeeping magazine, you would have read a handful on how we make money online. While I do it in a full time basis, the hubby does when he has free time. Which is not very much.

Oftentimes I feel that there are so many things to do, with so little time. But here is when time management gets in. I am thankful that I get to concentrate on my online job now that school year is over. But I still am so busy that I neglect making our daily kefir shake. The most I get to do it now is 3x a week. Which explains my weakened immune system. I caught a cold last week. Maybe it’s time to go back to the traditional multiple vitamin supplement? It’s easier to pop a pill than peel fruits and filter kefir grains and do everything else, right? But then again, keeping focused to my commitment to our family’s health will just be the reminder that I need to press on.
