These are two of my current bedside books. Reading books is something I’m glad I am able to go back to doing again after a while of hiatus. I recently just published the post review of Captured by Grace. I loved it so much that I asked the hubby to read it for my birthday present. ;-)

Captured by Grace, No One is Beyond the Reach of a Loving God by Dr. David Jeremiah is another book that is hard to put down. Dr. Jeremiah could not have done a better intro when he shared about the Turkey Throwing Case that made it to the New York Times in 2005. I would not have known that it was so talked about until I googled it.

I have read a few Proverbs-inspired book but nothing as entertaining and as fun as “Kaleidoscope, Seeing God’s Wit and Wisdom in a Whole New Light” – the first book I have read of the best selling author and Women of Faith speaker, Patsy Clairmont. Imagine a book that is lighthearted (nothing hard-core theology here) but deep nonetheless, without compromising the enlightening wisdom Proverbs is designed to give. Just reading through each chapter makes me want to befriend Patsy and maybe pick her mind straight out by just listening.

I read through Kaleidoscope as I would my regular Bible reading through Proverbs. Each chapter is provided with more than just insights about a chapter of Proverbs. The “Bits and Pieces” portion at the end of each chapter makes for great follow up questions and then further reinforced by “Held to the Light” which provides other supporting verses to the particular chapter.

The book can be used as a personal devotion tool and ideal for short Bible study too. I suggest to keep a journal as you go along. It will bless you through and through. As entertaining as it is, it is never shallow. I love how Patsy used random pieces of her life as springboard to such wonderful insights, which all women (even men) can surely relate to. I have yet to put the book aside for next day’s reading without a smile on my face. A smile filled with hope and prayer to be constantly transformed into the person God has designed for me to be.

About the Book:

Acclaimed author and Women of Faith speaker Patsy Clairmont causes womens’ hearts to leap and their hopes to lift in this quirky, straight-to-the point look at the Proverbs.

Understanding the Christian life and the Bible can be a daunting task. But maybe God didn’t mean it to be so hard. In Kaleidoscope of Proverbs, Patsy Clairmont pieces together some powerful messages from God and reveals new facets of beauty, inspiration, and instruction. Written for busy women, Patsy offers brief, powerful chapters that address the key aspects of their lives, hearts, and relationships.

In the Proverbs, God gives us small gems of hope and truth, and in Kaleidoscope of Proverbs, Patsy Clairmont unveils them for readers with her trademark humor and insightful teaching.

About the Author:

Patsy Clairmont’s quick wit and depth of biblical knowledge combine in a powerful pint-size package. She helps you to laugh God’s truths right into your heart. Her mission to provide humor and hope for healing comes from her own struggles. God pulled together the emotionally fragmented pieces of her life, not only to free her but also to serve as a reminder that imperfect, cracked Christians are God’s specialty.

A recovering agoraphobic, Patsy speaks at Women of Faith conferences, addressing tens of thousands of women, and has written more than twenty-four books, including Catching Fireflies, All Cracked Up, and I Grew Up Little. She loves a rainy day, a good book, and a deep cushioned chair. Given a day off, she shops, solves the world’s problems with a friend over lunch, and hugs the stuffing out of her two grandsons, Justin and Noah. Patsy and her husband of forty-seven years, Les, live in Tennessee.

Today I woke up and got thrilled over an email from Thomas Nelson that they’re soon to release a book written by the bestselling author Andy Andrews- “The Boy Who Changed the World.”

Everything You Do Matters

Who would dream that a boy playing in Iowa cornfields would save the lives of more than two billion people? This is the incredible story of Nobel laureate Norman Borlaug, a simple boy with a desire to feed the hungry – but Borlaug couldn’t have accomplished this without the help of Vice President Henry Wallace, who was influenced by inventor George Washington Carver, who in turn was rescued by farmer Moses Carver.

When I posted the book review of Intimacy Ignited, Conversations Couple to Couple last month, NAVPRESS gave me the privilege once again to request for another book to review.  I chose the novel, HOT by Laura L.Smith. But look at what NAVPRESS sent me! Four books! I received the novel, Hot and three other personal retreat books. Thank you, Navpress! :-)

Here are some of the things people are saying about HOT:

When NAVPRESS sent me the book Intimacy Ignited, Conversations Couple to Couple to review, I never really anticipated it to land on my list of favorite books. But it did, for reasons I will mention as I go along this post. The book has a heading right on its cover saying, “Fire up your sex life with the Song of Solomon,” so you could say I had high expectations and it sure did not fall short.

Intimacy Ignited used God’s Word to drive it and not just as a supplement to the authors’ thoughts and insights. As said in Psalm 18:30 that the Word of God is flawless, which we stand by through and through. And the Bible sure did not leave the marriage life for couples boring. In fact, it is ought to be the exact opposite, as reinforced right from the pages of Bible, no less. Simply put – God is for great sex life in marriage!

Last night, I had the opportunity to be one of the first ones around the world to see Shrek Forever After (The Final Chapter) at Eastwood Mall’s 3D Cinema since the Philippines is ahead in the US by 13-14 hours. It was a truly great experience because of two things – the movie and the venue.

I have enjoyed reading Intimacy Ignited, Conversations from Couple to Couple, as soon as I held it. Finished 5 chapters in one sitting and then I got too busy with our son’s graduation and my online tasks. But just to give you an idea, this book embarks on a verse by verse exploration of the Bible’s very own manual on sex and passion: the Song of Solomon. The couples vision of this book was for married couples to discover freedom, holiness and beauty of sex in marriage and learn why it all begins with a servant’s heart.

I love, love, love reading good books! This package is what welcomed me at my doorstep when we came home today from Jed’s graduation rehearsal. Exhaustion from the heat outside and the horrendous SLEX traffic seemed to suddenly melt away.

Although I was expecting to receive from NAVPRESS, I was actually surprised that they threw in an extra book. Here’s what they sent me to review…

Intimacy Ignited by Dr. Joseph & Linda Dillow and Dr. Peter & Lorraine Pintus and Speak Up with Confidence by Carol Kent.

The hubby and I watched Richard Eyre’s The Other Man the other day. It has been a while since the hubby and I watched a movie together. There are a few that we have lined up but the tons of work prevent us from watching movies very often.

This particular film focuses on the story through the husband’s eye. It was told in such interesting manner, as opposed to what is usual in movies of such taste – crime of passion. I will post a more decent movie review in the coming days.

Where is God?” is the default question man asks in times of adversity, whether rhetorical or honest manner. While it is almost a given that people suffer the consequences of their actions, there are also people who had no hand in their circumstances at all. Inasmuch as we would have the problems in our lives analyzed in percentages, as Dr. John Townsend explained in Chapter 3 – Pie Chart (e.g. let’s say you get laid off from your job. The problem may be 10 percent your doing, 30 percent others’ fault and 60 percent due to the world), we can actually go beyond the “Where is God?” question and come to understanding, then take action from there.

Dr. John Townsend’s “Where is God?” is a life changing book – another to my list of favorites.  It was thoroughly interesting how Dr. Townsend was able to biblically address our innermost longing to know where God is when we are in the midst of life’s most difficult challenges. The book challenges us to get into our heart of hearts during adversities – which is hands down the most vulnerable moments in our lives. Essentially telling us how we can actually get into a place where we can find the reasons for our struggle and why we ask the “Where is God?” question and brings us back to the fact that God is for us, regardless of our circumstance: how much we hurt and all the array of emotions that can rather get the best of us when we are engaged in adversities.

After a while of waiting, a package containing this book (Where is God by Dr. John Townsend) came in. I am happy that I am finally able to go back to my reading. Not that I am not. I have been reading a handful of books, shifting from one to another. Thus, hardly finishing one.
