I love, love, love reading good books! This package is what welcomed me at my doorstep when we came home today from Jed’s graduation rehearsal. Exhaustion from the heat outside and the horrendous SLEX traffic seemed to suddenly melt away.
Although I was expecting to receive from NAVPRESS, I was actually surprised that they threw in an extra book. Here’s what they sent me to review…
Intimacy Ignited by Dr. Joseph & Linda Dillow and Dr. Peter & Lorraine Pintus and Speak Up with Confidence by Carol Kent.
The hubby and I watched Richard Eyre’s The Other Man the other day. It has been a while since the hubby and I watched a movie together. There are a few that we have lined up but the tons of work prevent us from watching movies very often.
This particular film focuses on the story through the husband’s eye. It was told in such interesting manner, as opposed to what is usual in movies of such taste – crime of passion. I will post a more decent movie review in the coming days.
“Where is God?” is the default question man asks in times of adversity, whether rhetorical or honest manner. While it is almost a given that people suffer the consequences of their actions, there are also people who had no hand in their circumstances at all. Inasmuch as we would have the problems in our lives analyzed in percentages, as Dr. John Townsend explained in Chapter 3 – Pie Chart (e.g. let’s say you get laid off from your job. The problem may be 10 percent your doing, 30 percent others’ fault and 60 percent due to the world), we can actually go beyond the “Where is God?” question and come to understanding, then take action from there.
Dr. John Townsend’s “Where is God?” is a life changing book – another to my list of favorites. It was thoroughly interesting how Dr. Townsend was able to biblically address our innermost longing to know where God is when we are in the midst of life’s most difficult challenges. The book challenges us to get into our heart of hearts during adversities – which is hands down the most vulnerable moments in our lives. Essentially telling us how we can actually get into a place where we can find the reasons for our struggle and why we ask the “Where is God?” question and brings us back to the fact that God is for us, regardless of our circumstance: how much we hurt and all the array of emotions that can rather get the best of us when we are engaged in adversities.
After a while of waiting, a package containing this book (Where is God by Dr. John Townsend) came in. I am happy that I am finally able to go back to my reading. Not that I am not. I have been reading a handful of books, shifting from one to another. Thus, hardly finishing one.

MarriageandBeyond.com was officially launched first week of December 2007. Posts were live from Nov. 27, but importation of contents from their previous free hosted site wasn’t quite done yet until December. I have been blogging since 2004, so even though MarriageandBeyond is still practically a baby, its contents traces back to four years ago, which you guys will find in this site’s Archive.
MarriageandBeyond.com is turning 2 this December with a blog contest and we are raffling off Dr. James Dobson’s Best Seller, The New Dare to Discipline book and P500 worth of Starbucks GCs to one of our dear readers. This contest is open to all Philippine residents. With the consideration that at least 55.9% of our readers are from the United States, and if you happen to live in another country and you have a local address I could send the book to, in case you win, then you’re in!
In celebration of our 8th wedding anniversary, we added the P500 worth of Starbucks GCs that you guys could use to treat your loved ones on a date or even help you grab a hold of that must have planner. We figured what was best to go well with a book and it’s GCs from Starbucks, no less. The hubby and I love to spend time reading our own sets of books over Fraps of our choice.
Got hold of another treasure book via OMF’s Ukay Bookay! We were able to avail of the 30% discount last week. Â :-) I have always known that loving my child isn’t enough. I should love him right. I have pretty much my own idea of how I should nurture and love him, but the question is does the message get across? There have been a few articles written about the Five Love Languages in this blog and it always pertains to how to speak your spouse’s love language. I would love to better speak my son’s love language that is why I got hold of this book.
When you become a parent, it is easy understand and actually grasp what unconditional love is. The Five Love Languages of Children can help you make your child feel secure, loved and more willing and open to interact with you and your family. A review will be posted as soon as I’m done with the book.
Meanwhile, here are a few testimonials from people who have read this book: “This volume will, without question, enhance any parent-child relationship.”
- Church Libraries
“Even if you’ve read tons of parenting books, you will truly learn something new from this one – something to enhance your relationship with your child and adults in your life. You’ll probably even learn something about yourself.”
- Mom, Massachusetts
“This book would be useful reading for any parent, no matter the quality of relationships within the family, as well as anyone else who is dealing with children on a regular basis (teachers, grandparents, babysitters, etc.)”
- Yarden, Texas
“I can’t speak of the emotion that fills my heart when thinking of this book. It is saving my family! My husband and I now know how to satisfy our children in the most basic of ways… Love!! And I will tell you a secret: they do their chores now with no complaints!!”
- Mackena, California

And yet another great find from BOOKSALE. For now, I’m posting a review done by a fellow mom posted on the amazon site for this book. I have yet to finish reading, but even before my pupils reach half of what’s written, I’m already all into it. Feeling with the author and getting all excited with everything that’s in it. So for the meantime even as I read on, I hope to share this with you. . . Read the rest of this entry »
