My husband and I are going through the Love Dare Devotional. It is something we look forward to doing together everyday. We usually make use of Charles Spurgeon Morning and Evening Devotional or just random readings from the Bible. The Love Dare Devotional allows for couples to look closely at their marriage to help strengthen it.

As we move towards our tenth year in our marriage, the tendency for both of us to take each other for granted can be next to normal. This is especially true we are both overwhelmed with our busy schedules.

Devotions for couples can be as important as personal devotions. Why devotions, to begin with, you ask? It is plain to see that we receive faith by reading the word, faith then comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God. (Romans 10:17) This faith will be the one to course us through victory over our flesh. Oh yes, we need that on a daily basis. Left to our selfish selves, we are bound to trip and live a mediocre life. A day gone and will never come back. I have seen this oh so clearly for myself. The day that I forego devotion is the day that I end up later in the day feeling sorry for some wrong choices.

Here’s an excerpt of Love Dare, Day 1:

Love works. It is life’s most powerful motivator and has far greater depth and meaning than most people realize. It always does what is best for others and can empower us to face the greatest of problems. We are born with a lifelong thirst for love. Our hearts desperately need it like our lungs need oxygen. Love changes our motivation for living. Relationships become meaningful with it. No marriage is successful without it.

Our minds can store about a hundred trillion facts and yet most of us only think about ten thousand thoughts a day. That’s about three and a half million a year and we only use about ten percent of our minds ever. Our mind is a special gift from God.

How do we stay mentally fit so that we’re alert and bright so that all of our lives we can make the most of this gift that God has given to us — our mind?

Guard your mind. Control what you allow into your mind. As they say in the computer industry: “Garbage in, Garbage out.”

2 Corinthians 10: 5 says, “bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ…”

We must guard our minds from material like poison (pornography, witchcraft, trashy novels or movies, etc.).

Romans 16:19 says, “Be wise (excellent) in what is good, and simple (innocent) concerning evil.” Read the rest of this entry »

I have been preaching on a sermon series about Maintaining a Balanced Life and have dealt with the topics of mental, physical and spiritual balance in the last three weeks. In this post, I would like to share with you some principles on maintaining balance physically.

First of all, I just would like to say that God wants us to be healthy. In the Garden of Eden, Adam and Eve were in perfect health. The Old Testament is full of rules and regulations about health. Jesus spent much of His ministry healing people. He was concerned about physical health.

1 Corinthians 6:20 says, “Therefore glorify God in your body.” But how do we honor God? By using our bodies for God’s glory and honoring Him through it by taking care of it, respecting it and protecting it.

Now, what should our motivation be in doing this? There are actually physical and spiritual reasons. Most of us are aware of the physical reasons which are:

  • We’ll feel better. If we take care of our body, we’ll feel better. We’ll have more energy, fewer pains. We’ll be more alert, less depressed. Somebody said, “Health is what makes today feel like the best day of the year”
  • We’ll look better. We’ll have better complexion, look more attractive, develop a stronger self-esteem and have more confidence.
  • We’ll live longer. There are countless studies that show people in shape live longer.

The spiritual reasons are: Read the rest of this entry »

Scrapbooking is one of the things I have always wanted to get my hands on but never really had the chance to get around to doing. That is, until last weekend when All About Scrapbooking and Hallmark got us to our feet and challenged us to get in our artsy-craftsy mode.

The closest I got to scrapbooking was when I got some photos printed in books via Arts Cow and my wedding album recovery attempt.

With over a hundred applications installed on my iPhone and the hubby’s iPad, one of the more interesting ones that I have recently discovered is the KinKast iPhone Video Sharing Application. For one, I have never found any other video application that processes just as fast. Second and more importantly is the option of privately sharing the videos.

There are YouTube and Facebook video sharing options all right. But all of them are all out in the open, unlike KinKast. Parents like us take videos of our child every so often. Those who have been regular followers of my blogs, inluding ChristianHomeschooler.info know that for a fact. We can’t miss out on all those milestones, right?

Today I received this pack of Hawaiian Luau party ideas. With the school year about to end, this is something we can make use of in parties during the vacation. I downloaded the games straight from the internet – easy and no fuss.

When I received an invitation from Eurotel last week to an all expense paid trip to Baguio in time to catch the last days of the celebrated Panagbenga Festival, I knew it was just the break that I needed. It was my first time to travel away from home without the hubby. I was a bit hesitant at first, but with my husband’s approval, I figured it was the perfect getaway a homeschooling/work from home mom could really make use of. It was a healthy time out for me, away from my crazy busy schedule back on the home front.

I love that I was able to experience Flower Festival for the first time! We were there the last couple of days of Penagbenga and the crowd was still thick. It was fun to see lovely  floral masterpieces such as this along Session Road.

This Baguio tour by Eurotel was exceptionally special. We were not just housed in very comfortable and homey rooms, the Eurotel Staff were beautiful people as well. My sincerest thanks to Ivan, Joseph and Ana who made sure we’re stuffed with treats and all out pampering. All eight of us bloggers, Iris of Pinayads.com, Jen of SexyNomad.com, Claire of LakwatseraDePrimera.com, Gay of PinayTravelJunkie.com, Montsch of Yipeemedia.com, Melo of OutofTownBlog.com, Jonel of LetsGoSago.net and me thoroughly enjoyed the tour.

My roomie, Claire and I were given the Euro Suite 1 room. A classy and decent room with Leaning Tower of Pisa on its wall. A Euro Suite 1 room has a queen-sized bed, hair dryer, hot/cold water / bathtub / shower, 24 hrs. cable TV movie channels, air-conditioned, safety deposit box, free Wifi and buffet breakfast. They used the right slipcovers that made the room really cozy. Rate for this room is P2,900, which is pretty affordable, if you will ask me.  I will make sure to bring my boys here on our next trip to the Summer capital. :-)

When Ervin Tan of Electrolux Philippines contacted me last month for a video shoot of an actual consumer of their air conditioners for their upcoming launch, I made it a point to clear out my schedule for it. Not because I love being in the limelight. On the contrary I have always been more comfortable working on the sidelines, thank you. Even backstage, as my dear hubby can attest to.  But with my sincere satisfaction on the Electrolux split type air conditioner that we bought last year and especially their service, I felt it was the least that I could do to express my appreciation.

with Ervin Tan, the man behind the Air Care Category of Electrolux

I first heard about the Electrolux Split Type air conditioner last year during the Electrolux Midsommer Festival luanch held in Shangri-la Hotel last March 25, 2010. Being in the middle of summer around that time, it slowly became a torture for me to homeschool and work from home at the same time. It did not take long until the hubby and me canvassed air conditioners around the malls and we actually found the deal on the Electrolux air conditioners affordable.

Hello our lovely readers! Yes, all 8 of you. :-) I’m blogging from the Pines City, specifically in my cozy Euro Suite Room in Eurotel Hotel, who I am sharing with my beautiful travel blogger roomie – Claire. Got here around lunch time with eight other bloggers, sponsored by Eurotel Hotel.

I am loving it here so far. What makes it more fun is that we’re here just in time to catch the last few days of the celebrated Panagbenga Festival. Although we come visit practically every year, this is actually the first time I was able to visit during the Flower Festival.

Homeschooling, for the most part, is still relatively new here in the Philippines. Or should I say, is a “newly accepted” education alternative. A year before we officially jumped in the waters of homeschooling, we were bombarded by well-meaning relatives and loved ones who tried their best to talk us out of it. Although it has come to a point of being annoying at times, I had to keep in mind that they are of a totally different paradigm and it is never easy to make that shift in mindset.
