Whether a child is disciplined through spanking, a word, standing in the corner or facing the wall, the ideal way to end it is to sit the child down and run through what happened and explain why the discipline had to take place.

When we choose to conclude discipline time positively, we do not just talk about what took place and why his response was not right and why the discipline was necessary for him to learn. We also reiterate that we love him. Prayer after discipline reinforces the importance of being repentant and to be restored. We really do not need binoculars to figure all of this out. It is way easier to just let things be after the discipline. To choose to get the message across that love is the primary motive is the tougher choice. Otherwise, discipline will all be futile.
