Dear reader, Elyza, requested for Kraft Eden’s MeltSarap Lasagna recipe.  Hence, this post.  She came googling for Kraft Eden’s lasagna recipe and she landed on my Break the World Record post. It has been a while since I last baked my lasagna recipe, which I essentially tweaked from this Eden’s MeltSarap Lasagna recipe.  As I have shared in this post,  I make it a point to tweak recipes to have my very own signature touch to it.  Although most recipes that I encounter are already tried and tested, the adventurous me just have to experiment here and there until a recipe is perfect for my taste.  This post got me inspired to bake lasagna for media noche. :-)

Here’s hoping that this reaches the concerned authorities of lower Antipolo. Last Christmas day, our car was bumped by an L300 container van, with four adult passengers and a baby sitting up front. All of them were not wearing seat belts. We were already crossing the intersection, Jeff tailing the crossing cars to the other side and the L300 sped off to bump our left fender. Looking at the pictures alone will tell you whose fault it is.

In relation to our previous posts on drug use and abuse among the youth, the following is reprinted from the colum of Mr. Jesus Bigornia of Bulletin Today, issue of July 3, 1977.  It is published in its entirety, unexpurgated and without comment.

“Dear Mr. Bigornia:

By the time this letter reaches you, my physical body may have been either buried six feet below or lying in a state in a funeral parlor or church recieivng empty and hollow words of a necrological services.

But my death will not be in vain if you will just print this letter as it is in your column.

I was the teenage son of a ranking government official and, like most of high government officials and business executives, I was left alone to manage my young life.

My father was an honest, dedicated and able public servant.  There was no question about his integrity.  Everybody knows about that.  To show his loyalty to the public service, he worked from 6 a.m. everyday, from Monday to Sunday. He was indeed a model.

1. Personality, Heredity and Physiology

There are some traits which appear with above average frequency in those who abuse drugs as a high level of anxiety, emotional immaturity, a low ability to tolerate frustration, low self esteem, feelings of guilt and compulsiveness.  Personality, heredity and physiology may make some people more prone to become drug abusers but in themselves these factors do not cause drug addiction.

    2. Past Background and Culture

The family environment and society in which we are raised also can increase or decrease the likelihood of addiction.

    a. Parental Models -  How parents behave often influence the susequent behavior of children.

    b. Parental Attitudes – Parental permissiveness and parental rejectin can both stimulate chemical use and abuse.  When parents do not care whether or not the children drink, there is no concern about the danger of drugs or alcohol and misuse often follows.  If parents neglect the children or are excessively controlling, the chidren rebel.  Delinquency, excessive drug abuse and alcoholism often follow.

    c. Cultural Expectations – If a culture or sub culture group has clear guidelines about the use of alcohol and drugs, abuse is less likely.  HOwever, if teenager drinking is thought of as a sign of growing up and is the “in thing” to do, conditions are set up which lead many youth to drug abuse.

teen-drug-abuseTo emphasize the curent drug situation in tis proper perspective, let us briefly review the baseline data on dangerous drugs in 1972.  This was the year when the Dangerous Drugs Board (DDB) and the Constabulary Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU) started implmenting Republic Act 6425 otherwise known as the Dangerous Drug Act of 1972.  At that time, there were only about 20,000 drug users in the country, who were practically concentrated and limited within the confines of Metro Manila are.  Most of them were using only marijuana, a locally sourced drug of abuse, which was then grown almost entirely in the cordilleras and to a limited extenet, heroin.   The magnitude of the drug problem then was practically negligible and quite manageable by today’s standards.

After 30 years, instead of abating, the drug problem even worsened and has now assumend very alarming roportions.  The National Household Survey on the Nature and Extent of Drug Abuse in the Philippines conducted by the Dangerous Drugs Board in 1999 came out with an estimate of 1.8 million regular users and 1.6 million occasional users.  The mani drug of abuse is the most dreaded, methamphetamine hydrochloride or “shabu,”  whie drug abuse has now affected the whole nation.

It is the day after Christmas and guess what I have been up to? Rummaging on stuff struck by Ondoy that I left at the table in our garage to dry. Most items were already discarded months ago but there are still a few things we hoped to salvage and so after exactly 3 months, some documents, books, even pictures are now completely dry. I still had to sort them though and finally throw away the hopeless stuff.  It’s heartbreaking to throw pictures away but I’m left with no choice.  But there were a bunch that I was able to salvage and that’s just a blessing. I had to sanitize everything as well. Read the rest of this entry »

    christmas 2009

posted by Jennie on Dec 25

Allow us first to greet you all a very merry Christmas! We had such a meaningful Christmas get together with family as we shared with each other how God has been gracious this past year which I will later share in a post.  God has been great through and through and we are expectant of an even wonderful 2010 as we continue to choose to glorify God in our lives.

As soon as we were done with our mini (informal) program, I checked if there was any additional entry in my mail who made it to the cut off and there was one.  As soon as I got every single entry in, I hit the randomizer button.  Without further ado, the winner of the $14.99 value book, The New Dare to Discpline by Dr. James Dobson and P500 worth of Starbucks GC is….

    ChristianHomeschooler.info

We might have mentioned once or twice from previous posts that we now have our newest blog live — ChristianHomeschooler.info. Yes, it is one of the reasons why we have stalled in posting some updates for this blog. Thank you for your continuous visit despite the lack of updates, though.  We just love homeschooling so much that we were afraid we were just going to flood MarriageandBeyond.com with homeschool related posts.  Which is actually accepted as it can always belong to the “Beyond” phase.  But then again, as a web content writer who maintains niched blogs, we deemed it better to have a separate one to journal our homeschooling journey.

I love how Biblical Parenting makes it easy for us parents to bring together ideas and zero in on the essentials.  I totally agree with today’s parenting tip.  It is so easy to have children anticipate what is going to be out for them this holidays. To have them experience the joy of giving at an early age will surely go a long way.

Christmas is a highlight in the life of most children, but much of the benefit is focused on what they get. Of course one of the blessings of Christmas is giving, so look for ways to teach children generosity this year. Here are some ideas:

    • Involves kids in your gift giving strategy or help them develop their own. Planning, shopping, and wrapping can each provide ways for children to think about blessing others.
    • Anticipate with your children the delight others will experience when the gifts are opened. Help your child enjoy the fun others will have when receiving gifts.
    • Ask children the question: “What are you doing this year to make Christmas special for others?” This question alone can help teens think of others instead of just themselves. A short discussion can help move kids from selfish tendencies to generosity.
    • And most importantly, remind children of the generosity of God by sending us a special gift in his Son.

Aside from our DSL connection at home, the hubby and I have had two internet broadband sticks (Smart – prepaid) and Sun (postpaid), until recently that we also got a hold of a Globe Tattoo that came for free from my anniversary gift to him – a netbook.  I was actually surprised because I kind of gotten used to the two other broadbands’ ultra slow responses. The free Globe Tattoo that came with the netbook has been responding pretty satisfactorily. I claimed the tattoo stick as mine and it was okay with the hubs because we were really planning to get a tattoo for myself,  after being frustrated over the connection speed of the two other broadband that we’ve had.

We’ve been well aware of the broadband wars, which really got us to try each one. It has been two days since I got the Globe Tattoo and so far, so good I love the speed it gives me. It may be that I always get good coverage around the areas I connect to the internet.
