When the husband and I first learned about MTV, Jeepney Music, and Department of Tourism collaboration last month, we became interested. I cannot be more proud of a fellow Pinoy, Apl.de.Ap, reaching out to his countrymen by working with our government to encourage people to come to the Philippines.
We’re one musical family, even our son could carry a tune before he even turned a year old and even play around with songs and give them different endings and the songs still wouldn’t sound off. We’re actually hoping to enroll him in a music class where he can nurture this talent. My husband has always had these bionic ears for music. He also plays the guitar, drums and keyboards, while I love to sing. Although he could be a perfectionist of sorts, a little pitch higher or lower and he’ll give me the eye.
We love that the MTV and Department of Tourism collaboration has come up with MTV Emerge. MTV Emerge is such a neat platform that allows unsigned music talents in the Philippines to strut their stuff and be given the opportunity to be given a one year recording contract with Jeepney Music. All unsigned music talent are encouraged to participate by uploading their profiles, photos and original music on the MTV Emerge site during the contest submission period. Apl.de.Ap will be one of the judges come November 20. Seven winners will be chosen and will bag a year of recording contract with Jeepney Music.
Filipinos are one talented bunch and we cannot be more thrilled that people behind this project came up with this. As I was browsing through MTV Emerge, I already have a few favorites and one of them is the song by Rapnophobia, God Bless Philippines. Maybe you’d like to head over the site and listen to the Filipino talents, vote for your favorite music while you’re there and you just might find yourself proud of your country, like I did.
