Cafe by the Ruins
One of the places that has been like a must go for me and the hubby whenever we frequent Baguio (which is not very often, by the way) is Cafe by the Ruins. More than just the historical significance of the place, it’s ambiance is better than your regular cafe. I love their lemon curd crepe and the simplicity, classy feel that the place has. We chanced upon the cafe this time around when we were just going around the area. The roads in Baguio have gone crazy. We figured it was brought about by the construction of SM City. If there’s anything, they sure have conquered the place. We just had to go visit the cafe when we chanced upon it and having had our dinner already, we came in for dessert and of course some picture taking.
It was said that the place where the cafe stands used to be a pre-war residence of one of the governors of the Benguet Province. The original structure was ruined by American soldiers in pursuit of the Japanese soldiers. All that was practically left was a wall and in 1988 the present owners of the lot built a cafe themed in the very history of the place. Interesting eh? Their food is not that spectacular but the ambiance is definitely wonderful.

I’ve meant to ask this before — are you and Joan Joyce really blood sisters? If so, with all the other sisterly greetings I see here and on Joan’s site, your family has its very own blog empire!!
Anyhow, I’m here to make a very important and serious comment about lemon curd. I can’t have it in the house, because I’ll just eat the whole jar one teaspoonful at a time! Never on bread (bread’s fattening ha ha ha).
Profound, huh!
Oh, yeah, welcome back AND happy mommies’ day (tho it’s not in the UK).

Korky sis! Yup, I love that I am able to travel now. Although I’m treating my bad colds since I came back. tsk tsk. The weather up in Baguio is extreme. Too cold for me. But honestly I like it better than what we have here.

Layne! I’m so glad to hear from you and know the fondness the two of us have over lemon curd! It’s just irrisistable. I love the lemon curd crepe already, I’m sure I could eat a jar full in a snap if I’d be presented with one. Yummy! I still have to go look for one. Have not seen anything like it here in our local stores.
As for the sister-calling-habit, this is actually the norm in the pinoy (filipino) blogosphere. We’re all like blogging sisters and brothers. lol! Which we all are, one way or another.

wow kuya neil! I can’t believe you are here! I have longed to have you comment for so long. Joke lang po! (half-meant). I have become so jealous that I can’t seem to create posts that will make you comment on.
Hmm… so you’re going to Baguio. It could be the perfect honeymoon destination kuya. pramis. It’s too cold, all you both gotta do is cuddle all day, everyday.
