Last year’s Summer Youth Camp theme was “GeNext (Your Choice, Your Future)”. Our church’s team has been doing these camps for more than ten years now and they rent 6 to 8 buses per year which is really a huge bulk of the event’s overall expense. If we come to think of it, it would be very practical to buy a bus and save a lot in the long run. Read the rest of this entry »

The hubby left for camp in the wee hour of three last Monday. It feels weird to be a single parent, at least that’s how I feel this last couple of days. Our little guy was able to speak with the hubby over the phone at breakfast this morning and he just just keeps telling his father, “Papa will stay here(?)” and the hubby will assure him that Papa will be back home on Friday.

Come to think of it, Monday was only two days ago, but it seems so long already. Two more days and we’ll get to see him. :-) But then again, he would have to leave again the following Monday for the second roundup of the Heroes Youth Camp. Last weekend, we were offered an opportunity by a relative through my father that we can occupy a place in Baguio for free. I got giddy with excitement as I told this to the hubby. I know it’s not like a royal caribbean kind of vacation, but it is still something we are so looking forward to. The last time I went to Baguio was during the first two years of our marriage and our little guy wasn’t around yet. It has been at least four years and it would be such a break from the scorching heat we have here in the city. I know it might just not be all that cool up there but at least the sun won’t hurt as much as it does here. Read the rest of this entry »

Having worked for a bank for three years made me believe that they are the major contributors to our society’s financial mold. One such bank that is a premier in providing asset management and great service for families and individuals worldwide and an established trustee services company is Northern Trust. I recently chatted with a former disciplee and a dear friend of mine. She told me that she will soon tie the knot with her beloved who also used to be a part of my small group around ten years ago. I have missed this girl so much and in the short exchanges that we had I felt her pour out her heart’s desires. I have again recommitted myself to be with her as we pray for her concerns. Sunday evening I finally got my son’s closet sorted! Geez! It took me so long. This has been a pending task for me to do since forever. (*Exaggeration*) I have to do this sorting business at least every couple of months because he does grow up very fast. With the petite girl that his mom is (present!), and his father, just the average Filipino guy size, we have such a big guy. At 2 months, he was wore 6 month old onesies and at two years old, he’s wearing shirts and pants good for a four year old kid.

It is such a fulfillment to be able to do these simple tasks. I find myself just putting it off every time because it can be trivial, you know, and besides I find myself needing to do other “significant” tasks. But it does feel good to take out those shirts and stuff from his closet without having to dig in anymore. :-)

One of the many things that I was taught to do when I was new at blogging that I found overwhelming was submitting my blog to different directories and then articles too to web articles portals. These would help promote our web site and later drive traffic in.

It is important to note to regularly submit articles to sites that have good reputation. I have found one that can practically be used as an online reference with over 1,300 unique content articles to boot. Like for instance this web articles portal can actually come in handy for tutorials about computers. I know I have a lot yet to learn on things about computers, I realized this when I recently tried to troubleshoot my internet connection with the assistance of my broadband connection provider agent from a phone. I need to know more about Hard Drive Control and Configuration Read the rest of this entry »

This is what I saw when I checked out our little guy who was unusually quiet from the other room. I learned my lesson that when kids get silent, they are into some sneaky things (e.g. tinkering with things that aren’t toys and are not suppose to play with). I was doing business from the other room, when I just had to check on him and this is what I saw. He was so into his book that it turned out that it was me who needed to sneak in and take this shot. He only reads simple three letter words and obviously this 35 month old guy cannot yet read the story by the words. I figured he’s reading the story from its pictures and recalling our story telling time when I read this particular book to him.

Things retain to him really well. Like for instance, when the bear family just arrived to their vacation spot, they were welcomed by a skunk and its foul smell. I only mentioned this once to him, but he attempts to read the book to me sometimes and emphasizes the foul smelling skunk and retained everything I told him from one story telling time. I love to see that despite the times I allow him to watch television (Brainy Baby, Baby Einstein, Sesame Street, First Impression Encyclopedia, Barney, etc.) especially when there are important assignments I need to get done, he still projects through his actions his love for reading. We even enjoy times when we will be side by side in bed reading our own books. :-) I know I have to watch it and limit his television viewing time to two hours a day.

Last night was our first time to read those classic fairy tales. I usually read to him his picture Bible with very shorts stories. I am thrilled to see his attention span is actually longer now that it used to be. Of course pictures add those exciting elements to the story telling time as he connects things that I narrate from the pictures he sees from the book. We read Billy Goat Gruff and Goldilocks and the Three Bears last night. He wanted more but I was way too sleepy and he looks sleepy too and my guess was right, because right after we said our prayers he fell asleep in less than five minutes. :-)

One of the reasons why the hubby and I have succeeded in implementing those Babywise principles is that I have been privileged to look after my son as a work from home mom. I know I wouldn’t have it any other way. We tried getting a nanny during the time I attempted to go right back to the corporate world, but saw right before my eyes the danger of keeping one. I actually witnessed her hit my son, when he was just playing hide and seek with her. I was on the phone then and she probably thought I didn’t see her (there was a divider in between the rooms we were in and she can’t see me from where I was). It was horrible! One of the books I’m currently reading is On Becoming Chidwise by Ezzo and Bucknam. I started reading it when I was waiting at the doc’s clinic a couple of weeks back. I got it for a bargain price and I’m really glad to get a hold of it. Read the rest of this entry »

This next two weeks starting Monday, I’ll be gone to Capas, Tarlac for our summer youth camp. It will be a very busy two weeks as I’ll be overseeing the 600-650 delegates from different churches each week (April 15-18 and 22-25). We are praying that participants who don’t have a personal relationship with Christ yet would make decisions for God this next two weeks. Also, we pray that those whom God is calling to serve as pastors or missionaries would surrender to God in this youth camp. Read the rest of this entry »

Approximately twelve more months – that’s all we have left to prepare for our son’s preschool education. In the midst of our health issues, even the current worldwide food crisis with every consumable product prices going up, it is just impossible for us to start saving up for that.   Read the rest of this entry »

The hubby left early today. He went to the camp site in Tarlac to take care of last minute details for the Heroes Youth Camp that will start this coming Tuesday. As early as now, we have been telling our son that papa needs to leave on Monday and will not be home until Friday. It’s funny how my son would insist, with a tone that says “please say yes” that he will also go to Tarlac with his papa on Monday. I took advantage and taught him the days in a week, telling him that papa will have to leave early Monday even though camp officially starts Tuesday, because he is overseeing the whole event and won’t be back until Friday. With our little guy knowing how to count, he counted the days in between Monday and Friday, you should see the look in his eyes and disbelief that he will not be seeing his father that long.

Mt.Peniel Camp Site

This is the time of the year that we have got to get used to. I miss going to camp, the last time I went was three years ago. I thought I would be able to join this year but our illnesses have made it impossible to do so. We are thrilled as we anticipate, amidst the busyness of the preparation, on what the Lord is going to do this year. Boy! Do I pity the hubby when he would often zone out on me lately-not in a frazzled kind of way, because that would be me, :-) overwhelmed with the things he has yet to do.

We pray for hundreds of young people’s souls to get revived and receive Christ as their Lord and Savior. You won’t believe the problems young people go through these days. I believe that the follow up activity for that camp is of equal importance. Most of them either need follow up counseling and some need to go to a drug treatment facility.
