Did You Participate During the Earth Hour?

Published by User ImageJeff at 10:03 pm under Uncategorized

A while ago our family chose to turn off the lights in our house for one hour from 8:00-9:00 PM. We wanted to fuel awareness on climate change with this simple act. Curious about who else participated in our community, we drove around for 30 minutes to find out who else were aware of this revolution. We saw only three houses (not counting ours) who participated actively with their families gathering together and lighting candles outside their homes. We were a bit discouraged to get on with participating for 30 minutes more but decided to press on considering also that maybe many people in our area were not aware of Earth Hour. When we arrived back home we continued our support of the Earth Hour and played hide and seek in the darkness of our small house. It turned out to be fun and the last few minutes went by in a breeze. So did you participate in the Earth Hour? We’d love to hear your stories.

What a great idea - turn of your lights for an hour to “fuel awareness on climate change”, and then drive around for thirty minutes and help contribute to the greenhouse gases. If you were that concerned about concerned about climate change, you would have gone for a walk or bike ride instead.

Hi Simon! You’re right, I actually thought of it before driving around but with our son tagging along and the summer heat starting to kick in here in our city, we would have rather stayed home with the fan and the airconditioner turned on, but we have chosen to do otherwise. At least people who were aware of the Earth Hour area would have seen our house and see us participating. But that is really a good and valid point you raised. What will make a difference really is how we use energy on a daily basis. It’s the little things that count.

Thanks again for stopping by. :-)

Hi Ris! I have been actually wondering about it. I just read in the papers today, featured on the frontpage, that the stretch of Roxas Blvd. and every participating city within the Metrohad their lights off. It is just sad that not everyone participated. Our city, let alone the subdivision we live in had each street light on. People can get stoic sometimes. But on the other hand, that is really each person’s prerogative.

It was great to know that there are still a number of us who participated even though there are also a number of people against it and actually think it’s nothing more than a touchy-feely thing that calls everyone out just because. Have a great day Ris! God bless! :-)

We did participate, we ahve scheduled worship team practice at that time but we started earlier so we can join, we turned off the main switch of our mission center. sad though that it seems it’s only us around our neighboorhood who participated.
