Read: The Seven Threats to Oneness and Intimacy in Marriage

  1. Share with each other about what is causing pressure in your lives. Discuss what needs to be eliminated and what must stay. Categorize the things you change and control the things that you can’t. Identify when you must say yes, and when you can say no.
  2. Share your own list of top five things that each of you value. The things you feel that are most important. Identify where your values are different. Identify those you agree on. Compare you schedules and talk about them leading towards the accomplishments of the top five things both of you shared with each other.
  3. List decisions that need to be finalized. Keep in mind that pressure is often caused by procrastination. Prioritize. This is better than settling to be worn out all together.
  4. Pray together often. Wisdom can only come from God, especially in how you should handle conflicts and pressures.
  5. If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him. 6But when he asks, he must believe and not doubt, because he who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind.

James 1:5-6

If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him. But when he asks, he must believe and not doubt, because he who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind.

Just came across this during my nightly surfing, and I agree that prayer is a foundational element in any marriage. A couple that takes time to pray together, regardless of daily stresses, is ultimately turning over to God sovereign control of all problems in life and yielding to His control. Doing this will only work to strenghten a marriage bond.
